a Career in Travel
Careers in the travel industry do not require a tourism degree or trade school
certificate,
however, these qualifications will open the student up to a world of opportunities.
The travel industry is very competitive. For any
single job opening, a travel company may receive hundreds of resumes. Your schooling
will make you stand out in the crowd.
The travel industry is a very customer service oriented industry. A background
in any type of customer service based job is helpful because it demostrates your
ability to work with people, which is the first requirement for a successful career
in travel.
Computer skills are essential. The ability to quickly maneuver your way around
a computer is a must, so be sure to highlight these assets on your resume.
A travel and tourism career is a stimulating and fun job. Each day brings new
customers and new experiences.
This industry does have its perks; several times per year group room tours are
planned to
different popular tourist destinations. Travel Agents with IATA (International
Association of Travel Agents) Cards are also entitled to discounts at many hotels
across the U.S.
Our Staff
GoldenTravelGuides currently
employs almost 40 professionals. The company is largely
comprised of travel agents and destination
specialists, however we also have an accounting department, an IT department,
a marketing and public relations department, and a group sales department. Staff
come to GoldenTravelGuides with a vast array of experience; they stay because
of the warm, family-like environment.
